Last month Dr. Edgar traveled to the British Museum, where they permitted her to access a turquoise mosaic skull, one of five turquoise mosaic objects from Mexico curated there. The skull is on exhibit, so Dr. Edgar went to the museum two hours before it opened so they could unlock the case. She took photos with a regular camera, with an inter-oral camera, and with a digital microscope. The goals of the analysis are to determine where in Mexico the mosaic was created, and to determine from which population of pre-European contact Mexico the skull derives. Dr. Edgar is working on this project with Alumnus Corey Ragsdale and Emiliano Melgar of the Museo Templo Mayor in Mexico City.
