Anthropology 120/122L is a fun hands-on lab class in which we explore how archaeologists know what they know about the human past. If you are interested in archaeology as a career (or even just in trying out an archaeological field school), this course is critical.
But even if you know you don’t want to be an archaeologist, ANTH 120/122L may interest you. Have you ever wondered how archaeologists know what they know? Are you skeptical about some archaeological claims? Have you ever read a statement about the past and thought, “is this really true?” ANTH 120/122L will provide you with the skills to answer these questions. We’ll focus on how archaeologists use these remains to evaluate data and understand past events, and how these methods intersect (or don’t intersect) with other ways of understanding the past. And, most importantly, you’ll get to practice your new analytical skills on actual archaeological artifacts.
If you like ancient art, early history, mystery novels, or shows like CSI, you will enjoy ANTH 120/122L!
