The Frank C. Hibben Charitable Trust has graciously agreed to provide funds to support a limited number of proposals (up to $15,000) for dissertation research for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Each UNM Anthropology graduate student interested in applying should prepare a proposal following NSF DDRIG guidelines. Students regardless of immigration or citizenship status are encouraged to apply. The proposals will be evaluated by external referees as well as the Graduate Committee, with the goal of providing all applicants with feedback regarding the strengths and weaknesses of their applications, with suggestions for how unfunded applications could be improved. Should the NSF be restored or expanded under a future administration, having experience in writing proposals for the agency will be invaluable for your careers as Anthropologists.

The Hibben Trust has provided funding since 2003 for graduate fellowships in the UNM Department of Anthropology.  These awards provide recruitment funding for new and returning graduate students, as well as a senior Hibben Awards for students working to complete their dissertations.
