The UNM 2026 Southwest Archaeology Field School will take place at Chaco Canyon National Historical Park, New Mexico. Students will gain essential hands-on training in archaeological survey and site recording. Our work will focus on identifying and documenting archaeological sites along the Chaco Wash in the bottom of the canyon. We will also have fieldtrips to various Chacoan sites in the canyon and across northwestern New Mexico. Students will camp in the Park, and both food and transportation will be provided. Please see the application form for additional details related to course registration, fees, and scheduling. Applications are available on the UNM Anthropology Department’s website, in the Anthropology Department office, or upon request (hmattson@unm.edu).
Underrepresented students are invited to apply for the Hibben Undergraduate Fellowship to cover the full cost of attending (tuition, course fees, and stipend). See the field school application for more details.
