Inaugural Event: Dr. S. James Anaya presents Ideas about Human Rights and Indigenous Peoples

On Monday, April 24 at 7 pm in Anthropology Lecture Hall 163, Dr. S. James Anaya will present The Hitchcock-Kelly Fund for Human Rights and Indigenous Peoples' Rights inaugural event with his keynote address Ideas about Human Rights and Indigenous Peoples. The talk will examine how ideas about human rights have been generated through thinking about the essence of human dignity. Professor Anaya will expolore ideas about fundamental human rights and have they have been seized upon to support indigenous peoples and their demands to survive and flourish in the world.
Dr. Anaya is University Distinguished Professor and the Nicolas Doman Professor of International Law at the University of Colorado Law School, and holds a BA from UNM Economics, a JD from Harvard Law School, and served as former United Nations Special Rapporteuron the rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The Hitchcock-Kelly Fund for Human Rights and Indigneous People's Rights was established through a generous donation from Dr. Robert Hitchcock and Melinda Kelly to provide support for collaborative projects and programs implemented by the UNM departments of Anthropology and Native American Studies.
