-Event-
Start Date: Nov 10, 2022 - 06:00pm
Location: National Museum of Nuclear Science & History
On Thursday, November 10 at 6 PM, Dr. Ian Wallace will present Osteoarthritis: An Evolutionary Mismatch Disease as part of Research and Discovery Week at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. Doors will open at 5:30 pm at the museum. Event tickets can be purchased in advance, or it can be purchased the night of the event at the door.
Osteoarthritis is a painful, disabling disease that is increasingly common for reasons that are not fully understood. In this talk, Prof. Wallace will argue that osteoarthritis is an example of what evolutionary biologists call a “mismatch disease,” a disorder that is more common today than in the past because of recent environmental changes. Evidence suggests that three modern-day environmental factors are especially critical for osteoarthritis risk: physical inactivity, energy-dense diets, and metabolic dysregulation.
"Science on Tap," a series of informal talks on a wide range of topics in science and technology, will continue on Thursday, November 10th, with doors opening at 5:30 pm, at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. The talks are co-sponsored by the University of New Mexico, Explora! and the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. Admission is $5, and you must be 21 years to attend. Admission includes one beer ticket per guest.
