Dr. Wetherbee Dorshow (UNM PhD, 2012 and Adjunct Assistant Professor) established AIKAX (Associação Indígena Kuikuro do Alto Xingu) in 2017. AIKAX is now featuring The Xingu Firewall: A Story Map, part of the Amazon Hopes Collective. The Amazon Hopes Collective draws together scholars, public entities, and indigenous people from the Kuikuro Indigenous Association of the Upper Xingu, one of the 16 ethnic groups from the Xingu Indigenous Territory. It builds upon prior collaborative work on cultural heritage, which has revealed large pre-Columbian (pre-AD 1492) populations and extensive landscape management. The fully unacculturated descendant society is the living legacy of the remarkable achievements of Native American peoples. View it here
