Beau Murphy, Graduate Student in Archaeology, has been awarded a US Department of Education Title IV Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship by the UNM Latin American and Iberian Institute (LAII). As part of the fellowship, Beau will complement his dissertation research of Inka imperial architecture in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile with linguistic studies in Quechua – the language of the Inka Empire still spoken by many indigenous peoples of the Andes today.
