Siobhan Mattison (UNM Anthropology), Mary Shenk (Penn State) and Tami Blumenfield (UNM Anthropology) led a competitively awarded, School for Advanced Research (SAR), Research Team Seminar, The Influence of Market Integration on Escalating Inequality in Small-scale Societies, March 29 - 31, 2022 in Santa Fe, NM.

The seminar brought together researchers and trainees with diverse expertise to synthesize results from 2 years of NSF-funded fieldwork in China (UNM) and Bangladesh (Penn State) that sought to address the evolutionary underpinnings of social and material inequality in societies experiencing market and social change. The collaborative grant has resulted in over a dozen publications, training of two postdoctoral scholars, and multiple graduate and undergraduate students, both in the U.S. and abroad. UNM attendees included Ruizhe Liu (bottom left), Siobhan Mattison (second from right, top row), Kyle Clark (right, top row), and Tami Blumenfield (second from right, bottom row).
