E. James Dixon, emeritus professor of Anthropology and former director of the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, has received a Fulbright award to teach and conduct research at the University of Paris during the 2025 fall semester.
He has authored four books and many articles and book chapters on various aspects of the archelogy of the Americas.
While in residence at the Sorbonne, he will deliver lectures in graduate and undergraduate classes focusing on North American archaeology.
During his six-week residence in Paris, he also will conduct collaborative research with Dr. Claire Alix, a leading expert in the study of wood artifacts from circumpolar regions, and a member of the Archéologie des Amériques faculty. Together they will analyse ancient and rare wooden artifacts recovered from melting glaciers in Alaska.
He will also present a public lecture, “How, When, and Why People First Came to the Americas” at the Société des Amériques at the Musée du Quai Branly Jacques Chirac.
