Katie Brewer receives a Center for Regional Studies Fellowship and a Grant from the New Mexico Archaeological Council

Katie Brewer, Archaeology graduate student, has been awarded a Center for Regional Studies Fellowshipfor her doctoral research on how colonialism and conversion affect burial rites, focusing on how Catholicism altered burial practices at five mission sites in the US Southwest. This study includes research with archives from Awatovi, Abo, Quarai, Gran Quivira, and Pecos.
The New Mexico Archaeological Councilhas also awarded Katie a grant to aid with travel costs for her research on changing burial practices related to conversion in US Southwest mission sites.
