Paulina Przystupa, doctoral candidate in Archaeology, has been chosen as UNM's representative to the NCAIS Spring Graduate Workshop in Research MethodsIndigenous Archives and Residential School Records to be held at The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, the University of Manitoba, and The University of Winnipeg.

The Newberry Library states, "In this workshop, Mary Jane McCallum and Adele Perry will host NCAIS graduate students in Winnipeg, Canada, where they will be introduced to the NCTR and its digital collection as an example of decolonizing archival practice and historical scholarship.  Here students will have the opportunity to engage in conversations about decolonized archiving methods, Residential School histories, and Indigenous research methods in an atmosphere where these questions are paramount.  One student from each NCAIS institution may participate in the three-day workshop as part of an introduction to critical methodologies in American Indian and Indigenous Studies. While we expect the event to take place in person, the workshop will be held in a virtual or hybrid format if we are unable to do so. Housing will be provided for all workshop participants, and travel to and from the workshop will be fully reimbursed."

This is a perfect match for Paulina, whose dissertation uses archives from American Indian Boarding Schools and Euro-American Children's Homes to compare use of space and location through time as views of childhood shifted in the US.
