Archaeology Magazine has published Piecing Together Maya Creation Stories, which features conservation sites where Research Assistant Professor Angelyn Bass has been working for many years. The article focuses on the reconstruction of destroyed Mayan murals using X-ray fluorescence, a technique that allows the researchers to identify subtle variations in the amount of the element barium in the plaster. With this information, the investigators were able to match pieces with similar chemical compositions. The reassembled fragments are now on display at the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology in Guatemala City.
