Raven Whiting Awarded the Karl Schwerin Award

Raven Whiting, a doctoral candidate in Ethnology, has received the Karl Schwerin Award.  In 2016 Raven earned their BA in Spanish Language and Hispanic Studies from SUNY Plattsburgh and went on to receive a Certificate in Social and Cultural Anthropology from l’Université Laval in Quebec City. Coming to UNM in 2020 to study in the ethnology MA program, they have expanded on research interests including decolonization, postcolonialism, recognition, identity, globalization, religion and ritual, and cultural encounters in global contexts. Recently, they have been exploring the creative negotiation and effects of ritual practice of Eastern religion in Western contexts.
