Sarah Leiter Awarded a New Mexico Research Grant

Sarah Leiter, who has been awarded a New Mexico Research Grant for her project on New Mexicans who are redefining themselves as Jewish as they pursue Spanish citizenship in the context of Spain's program to welcome back descendants of those expelled during the Inquisition. The funding will aid Sarah in her dissertation research. Sarah, a PhD student in the Ethnology subfield of the Anthropology Department, is studying themes of ethnicity, citizenship, narrative, and religion. Her ethnographic research explores how the opportunity for dual citizenship in Spain is affecting social identification practices in New Mexico.
