Thatcher Rogers, Archaeology doctoral student, has been awarded the Nancy Coinman Grant. The grant, awarded annually by the Grant County Archaeological Society, will support his research project which will provide a detailed examination of whole and partial ceramic vessels, projectile points, shell and turquoise objects, and other materials associated with the Dutch Ruin (LA 8706), a large, significant Cliff Phase (AD 1300-1450) pueblo located in the Redrock Valley, southwestern New Mexico. The project is associated with my broader dissertation research that investigates the relationships between the Casas Grandes culture, represented at Paquimé (Casas Grandes), the expansion of the Salado religious system in the Upper Gila River Valley, and the Animas Phase sites in the New Mexico Bootheel.
