During the Spring semester, the UNM Department of Anthropology awards a variety of undergraduate scholarships to support research, fieldwork, study abroad, and conference attendance.  

Department of Anthropology Undergraduate Student Awards

A. Maxine Graves Undergraduate Award
This scholarship was established by Dr. Michael W. Graves, UNM Professor of Anthropology and former chair of the Department (2007-2014) and his sister, Kathryn Tedrick, to honor the memory of their mother, Maxine Graves and her support of his pursuit of an education. The scholarship annually supports undergraduate students majoring in Anthropology who are in the Honors Program.

Spring 2025 Recipients: Manuel Gomez, Garrett Lloyd

Alfonso Ortiz Fellowship for Undergraduates
The Ortiz Center, Maxwell, Museum, and Anthropology Department established this fellowship program in honor of Alfonso Ortiz, former Professor of Anthropology and recipient of the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (the "Genius Award), for undergraduate students majoring in Anthropology, Native American Studies, History, and American Studies. 

Spring 2025 Recipient: Olivia Yazzie

Ann Ramenofsky Anthropology Honors Student Award Fund
This fund was established by Professor Ann Ramenofsky in 2010 to recognize and support research activities of students in the undergraduate Honors Program within the UNM Anthropology Department.

Spring 2025 Recipients: Kion Hill, Isabella O'Donnell Silfverberg

Jeannette and James Larson Anthropology Scholarship
The scholarship was created by undergraduate alums Jeannette and James Larson to support undergraduate research, fieldwork, and conference participation.  Recipients must have declared Anthropology as their undergraduate major and be at least a sophomore to receive the funds.  Preference may be given to eligible students who come from groups that have been underrepresented in attending college, such as first-generation college students or transfer students from community colleges/branch campuses.

Spring 2025 Recipients: Manuel Gomez, Garrett Lloyd, Lizbet Lozano

Barbara MacCaulley Endowed Scholarship in Anthropology
The scholarship was created in memoriam of Barbara MacCaulley by her family and provides two awards of up to $500 given to outstanding full-time undergraduate students concentrating in Archaeology and entering their senior year. This scholarship may be used to pay for travel and lodging at professional meetings or to conduct field research.

Spring 2025 Recipients: Kion Hill, Lizbet Lozano, Autumn Myerscough, Isabella O'Donnell Silfverberg

John Martin "Jack" Campbell Undergraduate Research Scholarship
This fund was established by the Department in honor of John Martin "Jack" Campbell, former Chair of the Department of Anthropology (1964–1972) and Director of the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology (1974-1975). This fund supports participation in professional meetings or research projects by undergraduate anthropology majors at UNM.
