Description

Since 2006, this project has focused on the health, demography, and social structure of the Mosuo, a Chinese ethnic minority in Yunnan and Sichuan Provinces who practice both male-focused and female-focused forms of kinship in different communities. Dr. Siobhán Mattison directs the project, but it is fundamentally collaborative, benefitting from close collaborations with Chinese researchers at Fudan University, including Hui Li (Anthropological Genetics), Pennsylvania State University (Mary Shenk, Demography and Anthropology), Tami Blumenfield (University of New Mexico and Yunnan University, Visual Anthropology and Ethnology), and Katherine Wander (Binghamton University, Epidemioilogy and Human Biology). The site offers opportunities for students, postdoctoral scholars, and other researchers to engage in multi-disciplinary research projects, both in the field and using extant data.
